Greg Ryan Glass - Massage Therapist & Community Herbalist
My background includes many years of study and practice in herbal medicine, and various bodywork modalities such as traditional yoga massage (Nuad Boran), shiatsu, acupressure, tui-na, Swedish massage, Indian abhyanga, marma therapy, deep tissue, myofacial meridian, sports and trigger-point massage.
In the late 1990’s, at the University of Massachusetts in the United States, I completed a degree in Psychology along with a graduate certification in “Culture, Health & Science”. During this time I apprenticed with a well known local Chinese herbalist, and my final research project for a masters level Holistic Health & Healing course was on Ayurveda, Siddha & Unani medicine.
I then went on to complete more than 2,500 hours of training through certification programs, workshops, classes, and clinical experience at numerous schools and apprenticeships. I also have a M.S degree in Food Sociology, and I am a certified tea specialist and sommelier.
I have traveled to Northern Thailand 5 times, and completed many courses in traditional “ancient way” (nuad boron) yoga massage, Jap Sen (nerve touch), dynamic/rocking massage, orthopedic acupressure, herbal compress massage, Tok Sen and foot reflexology. I have been fortunate to study with many great teachers through the The Sunshine Network, Loi Kroh Massage School, Jack Chaiya Massage School, Wandee Ancient Thai Massage School, the Thai Massage School of Chiang Mai, and the Blue Garden School. In addition, I have trained in yoga massage in the United States and Germany with Michael Gibian and Noam Tyroler.
I also studied at The Kali Institute for Somatic Therapies, The Acupressure Institute, The Natural Healing Institute for Naturopathy, The California School for Herbal Studies, The University of East-West Medicine, The California College of Ayurveda, The American Institute for Vedic Studies, The European Institute for Vedic Studies, The Mount Madonna Center School of Ayurveda, The Ayurvedic Institute, in Spain with Elaine Whitlock, and took numerous classes at various natural medicine conferences.
In addition, I spent more than 1 year apprenticing in traditional Chinese medicine with Michael Burton and Linda Robinson-Hidas, as well as pancha karma (Ayurvedic cleanse treatments) with Cynthia Copple and Dr. Light Miller.
As the founder of Sahaj Botanicals, I manufactured over 225 herbal extracts and developed over 100 herbal formulas (liquid extracts, capsules, medicated ghee and body care products) while operating 2 herbal apothecaries in the San Francisco Bay area in California. I have also worked in brand management/product development for natural food companies, and as a buyer/educator at several natural food stores.
My work for 10 years with Ancient Organics lead to the explosion of interest in Ghee as an Ayurvedic superfood, influenced the start of many other ghee brands and concepts, and to the revival of traditional fats to the American diet.
